OBITUARY: KEITH FARR 1943-2020
ALONG-standingvolunteer at the Middleton Railway has been chosen as the 2021 recipientof TheRailway Magazine Lifetime AchievementAward, which is givenannually forservices to preservation. Ian Smith, who is the railway’s vice-president, first came into contact with the railway in 1960 as asix-year old, helping DrFredYouellat thefledgling preservation site beforejoining as ateenage volunteer in 1969, wherehehas been avolunteer ever since. Ian has helped steer the railway through both difficult times and morerecently positivetimes, includingthe construction and opening of a new museum and running shed. Ian’s citationreads: Formore than 50 years dedicated service as avolunteer at the Middleton Railway,helping to shape the railway for futuregenerations, creating acommunityasset in acityenvironment and for recognising the importanceof preserving industrial locomotives built in Leeds.
KEITH FARR was a valued friend and colleague who will leave a hole in the lives of those who knew him.
