THE Buenos Aires tram museum line celebrated its 40th anniversary inNovember 2020 despite a lengthy severe lockdown which affected the entirecity.
Trams were only able to carryasmall number of society members because of continuing social distancing requirements, but after months of lockdown even this was a small positive step.
In 1976 asmall group of tram enthusiasts decided to create a tram museum in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires,which by 1920 had one of the world’s biggest tram networks with more than 875kmoftrack,99 routes and 3,000 tram cars.
La Asociación Amigos del Tranvía (or AAT –the Association of Friends of the Tram) decided to try to operate a museum tram on ashort 2km loop of remaining street tramway in the Caballito district of the city. Unfortunately, all the former Buenos Aires trams had either been scrapped or sold for alternative uses when the system was closed in the 1960s.
