MODEL railway company Hornby has returned to profitfor the first time in almost adecade thanks to the lockdown boom in the model railway industry.
Hornby hasreported a33% increase in revenue to £21.1million in the first half of the year,anincrease of £5.2m over the same period in 2019, with an operating profit of £200,000.During the first half of the year pre-tax profits stand at £17,000.
Christmassales areincluded in the second half of the year,where traditionally 55-60% of its salesare achieved.
Online sales benefited many companies in the industry during the spring lockdown, and at the half-year point Hornby have already exceeded sales achieved through this channel for the financial year 2019/20.
