RAIL Operations (UK) Limited and Swiss manufacturer Stadler have signed a framework agreement for the supply of 30 Class 93 tri-mode locomotives, which will support rail decarbonisation requirements in the UK.
An initial batch of 10 is due for delivery in early 2023.
As a tri-mode, the Class 93 will be able to run on 25kV overhead, diesel or battery power.
Rail Operations (UK) is the parent company of the Rail Operations Group (ROG), Traxion and Orion, and just two days before the announcement of the order, STAR Capital Partnership, a private equity company, confirmed that it had bought a majority stake in Rail Operations (UK).
