Moors line boss praises ‘incredible’ emergency appeal after £440k raised
THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has closed its emergency Covid-19 ‘crisis appeal’after raising more than £440,000 through public donations. The resilience appeal was set up at the beginning of the first national lockdown last spring to raise vital funds to help offset the loss of income. Thanks to considerable public exposure online and in the media, and undoubtedly helped by the NYMR’s ‘celebrity’status as ‘Yorkshire’s Steam Railway’, the donations rolled in.
‘Generosity’
“The generosity of our members and the local community has been staggering; raising an incredible amount which will help get us back on our feet,” said NYMR general manager Chris Price.
“From the whole team at the railway, thank you!
We’ve had phenomenal support, and this funding has enabled us to retain our people and keep operating with plans for the future.”
In addition to the crisis appeal, the NYMR was further supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of its Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey’project, and was awarded £1.9 million as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund run by the Arts Council.
