Third ‘S160’ joins Churnet Valley fleet
CORNWALL’S Bodmin & Wenford Railway has launched a new fundraising appeal to help complete the overhaul of its‘4575’ Small Prairie No. 5552 after almost a decade out of traffic.
GREG Wilson’s Batt Holden Ltd has added a third ex-USATC ‘S160’ 2-8-0 to its stable with the arrival of No. 3278 Franklin D Roosevelt at the Churnet Valley Railway (CVR).
The 2-6-2T is regarded as the railway’s flagship locomotive, having first arrived on the line as a Barry hulk in 1986. It entered service upon the completion of its restoration in 2003, and ran through to the end of 2012 when it was withdrawn for its first 10-yearly overhaul.
