LEEDS PLATFORM 0 COMPLETE: Network Rail completed a £161million project to construct an additional platform – platform 0– at Leeds station on December 27. Since 2018, NR has modified the track layout, overhead line equipment and signalling on the west side of the station to accommodate the new platform, which is due to open to passengers at the May timetable change. However, in the meantime platform 0 will be available to provide additional capacity if required.

FRESH LOOK FOR CHATHAM ARCHES: Work is underway to clean and repair an 1858-built cast iron bridge carrying the London- Ramsgate main line over the A2 in Chatham. Part of a structure known as the Luton Arches, the bridge is being cleaned,‘pigeon proofed’ and painted while masonry and bridge plates will be checked and repaired by March.

New high-level inspection walkways under construction inside Ilford depot in east London. Once complete, these will allow maintenance staff safer access to roof-mounted equipment on Class 720 EMUs.
