ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners led by TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham have launched another petition calling for work on HS2 to cease.
Despite the High Court rejecting an earlier attempt to stop construction of the new railway in April 2020, the signatories to the new challenge cite many of the same reasons to halt construction. However, Mr Packham said:“The world has changed dramatically since MPs voted on HS2 back in 2016.
“HS2 takes us further away from achieving net zero by 2050, it destroys a vast swathe of irreplaceable wildlife habitats and squanders a colossal amount of taxpayers’money on a business case that was bankrupt even before Covid-19.”
