Immaculately turned-out, Class 108 DMU Nos. M51909 and M56271 are seen in the ‘tanker sidings’at Cranmore on the East Somerset Railway on December 19. This is the winner of the Railcar Association’s Railcar of the Year award 2020. Some work, such as repainting, was undertaken in the CTMS building but most of the restoration has been undertaken at this open-air site. For a while, the two cars were an unusual sight, being coupled cabto-cab to test multiple working equipment.

THE Railcar Association’s Railcar of the Year award for 2020 has been awarded to the Mendip Traction & Rolling Stock Group at the East Somerset Railway.
This is for the seven-year restoration of two-car Class 108 set No. L231, comprising DMBS No. M51909 and DTCL No. M56271. Restoration has been undertaken with the vehicles in service much of the time rather than being laid up out of use for a long period.
Work undertaken has been mechanical, interior and exterior, all to a very high standard.
