THE National Railway Museum’s two Doncaster-built Great Northern Railway 4-4-2s, Nos. 251 and 990 Henry Oakley, are to form the centrepiece of a new exhibition in the town’s Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.
1902-built large boiler‘C1’ No. 251 arrived at its new home on January 24, having journeyed by road from Locomotion at Shildon. It will be joined at a later date by small boilered No. 990, which is to be transferred from the NRM in York. The loan is thanks to a partnership between the NRM and Doncaster Council that will see both Atlantics stay for an initial period of three years.
They will be displayed on purpose-laid track in a new rail heritage centre, which will also include an array of railwayana and memorabilia from theDoncaster Grammar School
Railway Collection.
