YORK’S National Railway Museum is to undertake a £500,000 refurbishment of its‘Station Hall’exhibition space this spring thanks to a grant from the Friends of the National Railway Museum.
The charitable organisation, which supports the work of the NRM, has raised £300,000 from its members to redevelop and refresh Station Hall’s permanent exhibitions, which are housed inside the Grade II listed former York goods station building. A key focus of the project will be the re-display of the royal carriage collection, which includes Queen Victoria’s original LNWR saloon of 1869.
William addition
The six vehicles will be marshalled into complete royal trains and matched with appropriate period locomotives. Anew addition to the hall will be Class 47 No. 47798 Prince William; one of a select number of locomotives to have hauled the current royal train.
