THE second-built Class 47, No. D1501 (later named Gateshead and given TOPS number 47402), has been in operation on engineers’ trains on the East Lancashire Railway during the Covid-19 lockdown. Track relaying in Lumb Woods, near Irwell Vale, was already scheduled for the winter and was able to go ahead, with work complying with coronavirus restrictions. No. D1501 is seen at Ramsbottom on March 5, about to couple up to Class 09 No. 09024 for return to Bury.
