■THE East Suffolk Light Railway’s completed extension – which doubles the length of the 2ft gauge line at the East Anglia Transport Museum –was brought into operation on April 18. The new western terminus of the line is named Mutford Thorpe station (RM March 2020).
■ PRIVATELY-OWNED ex- Dinorwic Hunslet 0-4-0ST 678/1898 Jonathan will be displayed at Statfold Barn Railway’s ‘150 Years of the Quarry Hunslet’event on July 10 and 11. Originally named The First and later Bernstein, this will probably be its first public appearance since leaving West Lancashire Light Railway in 2004.
■ LYNTON & Barnstaple Railway’s Chelfham station building returned to its original 1898 form following removal on April 24 of the extensions added to the platform side of the building after the railway closed in 1935. The following day the original appearance of the station was further enhanced by installation of the wooden ‘Up’starting signal post and ladder support.
■ THE rock face was descaled from Steeplehouse cutting and Dark Lane Quarry above Steeple Grange Light Railway’s (SGLR) track at the end of April by Derbyshire Geotechnical Ltd. The work was required following February’s rockfall, which prevented SGLR reopening as hoped at the end of lockdown (RM April). The specialists’ report and conclusions are awaited.
