THE second of five Vivarail Class 484 electric trains for the 8½-mile long Island Line was delivered to the rail access point at Sandown on May 18.
Set No. 484004 joins set No. 484001, which arrived last November. Before transfer to the island, each set is being tested at night between Eastleigh and Fareham.
When the last of the old 1938 Class 483 trains was withdrawn and the line closed on January 4, the intention was to reopen after platform modifications and infrastructure, signalling and power upgrades at the end of March, but was put back to May 17.
