VTG RAIL (UK) is the largest domestically-based wagon hiring and leasing company. Based in Birmingham, it operates a fleet of about 3000 wagons.
Its origins began in 2002 after parent company Hamburg-based VTG-Lehnkering AG acquired the rail division of Australian firm Brambles, which had previously traded as Caib (UK). Recent acquisitions have largely been JNA-T box wagons for aggregates traffic, the latest batch to arrive from Astra Rail, Romania, being Nos. 81 70 5500 704-8 to 803-8, while WH Davis has started production of 84 FWA‘Ecofret2’ sets at Langwith Junction.
Completed to date are FWA-A outers Nos. 83 70 4520 198-0 to 247-1 and FWA-B inners Nos. 83 70 4521 035-3 to 059-3.
