BETWEEN the arrival of this new RCTS book and the publication of this issue, the tragic news of the closure of Brush’s Falcon Works in Loughborough emerged, making this review both timely and poignant.
Compiled by George Toms, who worked at Brush for 48 years, this is the second part of a complete history of the company – the previous edition being published in 2008.
It provides a comprehensive overview of the Falcon Works output over the last 40 years, including locomotives for export, the Class 60s, 92s and Channel Tunnel Tri-Bo electrics and the various re-engineering programmes of the last 25 years.
As well as detailed and informed text tracing recent history, working practices, ownership and management, the book features more than 70 photographs and numerous appendices supporting the main chapters in parts one and two.
