EDINBURGH-BASED 7N Architects has won a competition held by Network Rail and the Royal Institute of British Architects to encourage new approaches to station design.
More than 200 entries were received from around the globe. Designers were asked to address how passenger experiences could be improved by looking at new concepts for small and medium-sized stations.
7N’s entry included a clock tower designed to serve as a local landmark and meeting place. The station’s modular design is intended to allow it to be integrated into a variety of locations and complement its surroundings.
It also incorporated capacity to generate renewable energy through translucent photovoltaic panels, which form the roof to the platform canopies.
