A CORONER’S inquest has begun into the fatal accident on November 9, 2016, when Croydon tram No. 2551 overturned on the sharp bend at Sandilands.
Proceedings began with a minute’s silence for the seven victims of the crash, which also injured a further 51 people. A jury was sworn in on May 17.
An investigation by the RAIB found the tram derailed while travelling at almost four times the speed limit for the bend. Driver Alfred Dorris was arrested, but all charges were dropped.
