DETAILS of the first phase of a two-year project to refurbish and develop the Foyle Valley Railway Museum in Derry/Londonderry have been released by Destined, the charity that took over the museum back in 2016.
Destined, which supports adults and children with learning difficulties, was awarded a grant of £242,100 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund last year, which will help revitalise and transform the west bank of the River Foyle (to the south of the Craigavon Bridge) and will also go towards community events, and a cultural research project.
This includes undertaking vital repairs to the existing museum building which occupies the site of the Great Northern Railway (Ireland)’s Foyle Road station, the development and construction of a new Interpretive Centre and exhibition space, and the delivery of training for museum guides.
