ALAN R HAWKINS/71A LOCOMOTIVE GROUP
CLASS 33 No. D6515 Lt Jenny Lewis RN is in Eastleigh Works for corrosion attention to both cabs.
Only the lower parts of the cabs were repaired when the loco was overhauled to main line standard in 2009. The upper cab structures were serviceable at the time but, 12 years later, restoration was required – including the roofs. The work was delayed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but on January 4 the‘Crompton’ travelled light engine from Swanage to Eastleigh Works.
The first 71A Locomotive Group working party took place the following weekend, and every weekend since, as allowed under Covid restrictions as applicable to volunteering and conducting work unable to be undertaken at home.
