Lakeside progress
FOLLOWING the removal of the wheels on Fairburn ‘4MT’ 2-6-4T No. 42085 (RM June 2021), Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway volunteers are now focusing on cleaning and surface prepping the frames, bogie, pony truck and the driving wheels. Further good progress has been made on the boiler of Chris Beet’s Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-0 No. 46441 at Carnforth. The firebox wrapper lower sides have now been removed, and the throatplate will follow suit shortly to a similar height. The rebore of the valves and cylinders is expected take place at Haverthwaite shortly. Completion of this task will free up space, allowing the main shed to be reopened to the public.
