WHILE the Head of Steam Museum, Darlington, is still reeling from the loss of historic loco Locomotion No. 1 (Stockton & Darlington Railway), albeit replaced by the 1975 replica formerly at Beamish, another historic loco is to join the collection at North Road station.
This is Class 37 No. D6898/37198, which has been undergoing accident damage repair at Loram following its runaway collision with coaching stock at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough on May 12, 2014. It is currently in the yard of the Derby company with an all-over cocoon covering.
It is destined for the Darlington museum as it was the last Class 37 to be built at Darlington Stephenson Works (English Electric 3376/Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns 8419 of 1964).
