DB Cargo UK is looking to improve use of digital technology to make its depots at Toton, Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe more efficient and environmentally sustainable.
the company, which is a member of Rail Forum Midlands, used an online event on July 19 to set out its needs to potential business partners in the region. It’s the third initiative of its kind which has been run by the forum as part of a Rail Supply Group pilot programme in the Midlands.
Local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are being asked to consider whether they could offer their expertise in a number of areas, including digital monitoring of vehicle movements, workflow within depots, depot emissions monitoring, asset mapping, intelligent lighting and heating, and increasing the use of automation.
DB Cargo UK’s chief digitalisation and transformation officer, Marie Hill, said: “Safety, digitalisation and sustainability is now at the centre of our decision-making, so we’re keen to tap into the knowledge and experience of SMEs that have a track record for doing things differently.”
