CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF THE IOWSR
THIS publication follows the story of half a century of railway preservation on the Isle of Wight on a year-by-year basis, interspersed with personal recollections from many of the people involved.
Well illustrated with attractive photographs throughout, appropriately, the line’s flagship locomotive adorns the cover – ‘O2’ 0-4- 4-T No. W24 Calbourne.
After an introduction, the organisation’s origin at Newport is detailed, followed by the move to Haven Street station, where it established its headquarters. The chapters cover the 1970s, 80, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020. Each year features a set of statistics – including days operated and tickets sold, providing an interesting indicator in itself about how the railway has developed.
