BELMOND’S Covid-secure ‘Royal Scotsman’ Pullman train ran from Kyle of Lochalsh through to Boat of Garten on the Strathspey Railway on August 18-19. Resident Class 31 No. D5862 (31327) worked the Strathspey Railway leg of the train, taking over from GBRf Class 66 No. 66743 at Aviemore. The train is seen approaching Boat of Garten with a tea-time arrival and where locomotive and train remained
overnight.

This authentic recreation of a 1965 view shows driver David Green, the Strathspey Railway’s diesel shed foreman, easing Class 31 No. D5862 past Class 27 D5394 (27106/27050). The Brush Type 2 had just come on shed after bringing in 5H81, the ‘Royal Scotsman’ train on its return from Boat of Garten on August 19. The train was handed back to Class 66 No. 66743 in Aviemore station, the GBRf loco having spent the night outside the SR’s gate.
