STEAMING INTO BIRKHILL: Caledonian Railway (CR) 0-4-4T No. 419 arrives at Birkhill with the 10.30 from Bo’ness to Manuel on October 10. The Scottish Railway Preservation Society, which operates the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, is continuing to restore and install the station’s former West Calder footbridge and the lamp hut from Kentallen on the ex-CR branch from Connel Ferry to Ballachulish.

THE re-creation of Hawksworth 4-6-0 No. 1014 County of Glamorgan continues to take shape at Didcot Railway Centre – the tender being the current focus of attention. It is being constructed on a new Hawksworth-design frame, incorporating a centre section and standard GWR wheelsets and axleboxes from a Collett tender.
