THE planning application to extend Bala Lake Railway from its present Pen-y-Bont terminus three-quarters of a mile to a new Bala town centre station building has now been submitted to the Snowdonia National Park Authority.
The extension is costed at £4 million, the bulk of which has yet to be raised with the railway seeking grant funding.
Supporting documentation for the application says the railway currently carries 29,000 passengers a year and believes this number could double following construction of the extension.
