THREE months of extensive repair work to the Grade II listed Barmouth Viaduct was concluded on December 30, allowing the Cambrian Coast line to fully reopen.
The bridge closed in September last year, but a combination of greater deterioration than expected, challenging winter weather, plus the impact of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus, meant the work needed longer to complete.
The conclusion of this work completes the second phase of a three-year restoration programme, the biggest in the bridge’s 153-year lifetime.
