VOLUNTEERS from Bury Standard 4 Group continue to progress the restoration of BR Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-0 No. 46428 from Barry scrapyard condition at the East Lancashire Railway (ELR).
A new bufferbeam has been made and prepared for bolting in place once the support brackets have been renewed. The broken studs which hold the fixing bracket for securing the boiler to the frames are being drilled out ready for replacement.
New 1in studs for fixing the piston valve and main cylinder covers in place have been made and fitted. The new pony truck swivel pin has been fitted and a former made to enable the pony truck axle box to be filled with new white metal.
Meanwhile, the group’s BR ‘4MT’ 2-6-4T No. 80097 has been undergoing winter maintenance. The regulator valve has been removed, descaled and refurbished.
