YEOVIL Railway Centre’s Peckett ‘M5’ 0-4-0ST Pectin (1579/1921) will be formally returned to traffic during a special ceremony on March 20, marking the culmination of the former British Aluminium Company loco’s overhaul.
The Peckett was withdrawn in March 2014, and has been the subject of a 10-yearly overhaul by South West Main Line Steam Company volunteers. Much of the bottom end work was completed in-house; the boiler overhaul being contracted out to Shaftesbury Steam Restoration at Melbury Abbas, Dorset.
Resplendent in new paint, Pectin’s relaunch will see it work services over the centre’s short stub of the GWR’s Clifton Maybank branch. The gate opens at 10.30 and train rides commence at 11.00. Last admission is at 3.30pm.
