ON FEBRUARY 22, members of the planning committee at Bury Council unanimously approved a planning application by the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) to ensure its Buckley Wells depot facilities are fit for the future.
The project is expected to cost £12m. “This is a broad estimate but it is clearly the next big challenge that may well take longer than it took to get planning permission,” said Mike Kelly, ELR chairman. “Firstly, we need to break the project down into manageable chunks. There will be three distinct funding phases.”
