THE 10¼in gauge Paignton Zoo railway, Devon, operated in recent years as the ‘Jungle Express’, has closed with all stock disposed of for further use. The line dated back to 1937 and is believed to have last run on November 1, 2020. It was announced in January the railway was not going to reopen.
The Bo-Bo loco, built in 1939 by G&S Light Engineering, is now at the Ropley Miniature Railway. This line is located at the Mid-Hants Railway’s Ropley station, at the end of the platform, near the footbridge.
The Bo-BoDM, with Class 37-type body, built at Trago Mills, Devon in 1995, was sold to an Adam Jeffery of Cheshire, along with the track, which is for sale.
The five carriages have gone to the private North Cornwall Railway (NCR), St Teath. After two years of open storage they are being rebuilt. The NCR holds occasional public open days for charity, including April 10 (12.00-17.00).
