AN ONLINE appeal via the Crowdfunder website and sell-out guided tours of the Blackpool Heritage Tram depot at Rigby Road have raised sufficient funds to enable crucial safety surveys to be undertaken and an architect to be commissioned to develop the tram depot restoration plans.
This will enable the heritage team to apply for funding to refurbish the building and repurpose part of it into a new heritage attraction.
As reported in The RM last July, the £1.6 million original target was set as a focal point in order to replace the roof cladding and conserve the supporting roof structure. It is the catalyst for an ambitious restoration and redevelopment to enable the proper protection of around 38 trams in the collection, including the 10 heritage and vintage cars used on heritage tours.
