LASER scanners and drones have been used to map the iconic Whalley railway viaduct in Lancashire, part of a plan to protect its future.
This new technology is being used by Network Rail to plan essential maintenance over the next six to 18 months which will ensure the 19th century structure is being maintained and protected. The contractor, Commendium, undertook a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) survey using the laser, then drone flights took place to take high-definition photographs of the Grade II listed structure.
