THE first round of public consultation for the DART+ Coastal North Emerging Preferred Option was launched by Iarnród Éireann on February 24. The consultation outlines the proposed level of services and infrastructure changes required to deliver 37km of additional electrification on the Dublin to Belfast main line.
Running until April 8, electrification and upgrades will allow DART services to be extended from Malahide to Drogheda, increasing trains per three-hour peak from 11 to 24 and capacity from 12,500 to 26,600 seats. It proposes Howth is served by a shuttle to allow trains to double from nine to 18 services, increasing capacity from 10,800 to 21,600 per three-hour peak.
