HERE is some superb Ivo Peters colour film footage from the early 1960s! The first part of the DVD features the Bluebell Railway 1962-1963 and the Cadeby Light Railway with the Rev Teddy Boston’s loco Pixie. The remainder is devoted to surviving industrial steam activity from the same era. We visit Bath Gas Works, the Port of Bristol and Wirksworth Stone Quarries, also the Buckminster and Exton Park standard gauge ironstone railways. This fascinating programme concludes with an extended section featuring the Kettering Iron & Coal Company’s 3ft gauge ironstone railway.
The original material has been excellently remastered from the 1988 one-inch VHS masters. Ivo Peters recorded these lines on high quality 16mm colour film stock – thus saving for the historical record the very early days of preservation and key industrial railway activity that was very soon to vanish completely in the UK and which received relatively little attention from the majority of railway enthusiasts at the time. These surviving industrial lines are certainly some of the least known in the country and utilised a wide variety of steam motive power.
