THE Bank Holiday weekend April 30-May 2 was not billed as a Ffestiniog Railway (FR) special event, but it became so.
The FR Society annual general meeting took place during the weekend and a special treat for members were visiting appearances by Jeremy Martin’s Hunslet 0-4-0ST Sybil (acquired from Brecon Mountain Railway last year) and Hunslet 0-4-0ST Elin, which returned to steam at the beginning of April (RM, May).
This was Elin’s first public appearance in steam following completion of its extensive overhaul at Jeremy Martin’s private Richmond Light Railway in Kent. Elin had last worked in 1997 at the Yaxham Light Railway and this was the first time it had been in Wales since leaving Penrhyn’s Coed-y-Parc in July 1962.
