TWO of preservation’s best-known industrial steam locomotives, which had worked together for 35 years before being separated in 1986 for a further 36 years, finally met once more at the North Tyneside Steam Railway’s (NTSR) at the end of April.
As the name of the event strongly suggests, the ‘Victor & Vulcan Reunion Gala’ between April 30 and May 2 brought together Bagnall ‘New Standard 18’ 0-6-0STs Nos. 403 Victor (2996/1951) and 401 (formerly Vulcan – 2994/1951) for the first time since they last worked together at the West Somerset Railway in the mid-1980s.
It was a reunion that many had longed to see, and the dream was finally realised on April 27 when Victor arrived at the NTSR from its base at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.
