THE Market Deeping Model Railway Club held its first show at Stamford Welland Academy since the 2019 event was vandalised by drunken teenagers.
Over £30,000 worth of damage was caused, but around £100,000 was raised from wellwishers around the world after the news broke – including a £10,000 donation from music legend and model railway enthusiast Rod Stewart.
The show, held on May 14/15, attracted over 1100 visitors – more than doubling the previous record of 450. The show was sponsored by Stamford’s main Ford dealer TC Harrison, and one of the star exhibits was the club’s ‘OO’ gauge model of LNWR Euston station as it appeared June 23, 1875.
