ON July 18, work began on the Gwili Railway’s development of its Abergwili site, Carmarthen, which will provide new and enhanced facilities for the railway, its visitors and the local community. It is hoped all trains will start from the line’s southern terminus by Easter 2023.
The first phase will see contractor Ian Davies Plant construct the access road to the site from the A485 and the car park, in addition to the foundations of the Dan Do shed, with the shed itself to follow in the spring of next year.
The project has been boosted by a Community Asset Development Grant for £150,000, which is a European Regional Development Fund Grant awarded via the Welsh Government. Further funds have been provided by the Gwili Railway Company, Gwili Railway Preservation Society and Welsh Railway Trust which have in turn collected funds from individuals.
