ECCLESBOURNE ‘DELTIC’ FAREWELL DELAYED: The Deltic Preservation Society’s (DPS) No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier ran three round farewell trips on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) on July 5. It then departed for a spell on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (RM July p84), including the DPS 40th anniversary celebrations. The EVR farewell day was delayed by a week because of track work taking place at Duffield on June 28. The Type 5 heads the 14.15 from Duffield and is viewed from the road bridge at Wirksworth as it is about to enter the station.

WESTERN Locomotive Association’s Class 52 No. D1062 Western Courier continues to run on the Severn Valley Railway as No. D1040 Western Queen (RM July p84). It has seen much use this season, clocking up more than 1000 miles by the end of June.
In addition to marking HM The Queen’s platinum jubilee the hydraulic will also commemorate BR staff who lost their lives in an accident on the original loco in 1963.
