Drinks brand’s largest independent bottler to move products by the trainload.
AN ESTIMATED 2.5 million cans and bottles per day of some of the world’s best-known soft drinks are expected to be moved by rail as a result of a deal reached between Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) and Maritime Transport.
Operated by GB Railfreight, trains will run six days a week between Wakefield Europort and London Container Terminal at the Port of Tilbury. They will carry heavily-modified containers loaded with CCEP products as they make their way to third-party warehouses, with Maritime’s lorry fleet making the ‘final mile’ deliveries.
Although Maritime has provided CCEP – the world’s largest independent bottler of Coca-Cola brands – with distribution services for the last five years, it is the first collaboration between the two companies to involve movements by rail and also Maritime’s first domestic distribution intermodal service.
