RHYL Miniature Railway’s (RMR) tramcar – which ran for the last time in this form on September 25 before withdrawal for conversion into a new coach (RM, November) – returned to Rhyl’s metals on October 13 with its new body largely complete, now as coach No. 9. Having passed clearance and air-braking tests, the vehicle went back into the workshop where the woodwork was finished off, with painting commencing at the beginning of November.
The old body, having been carefully removed, has gone to the Sherwood Forest Railway, where the intention is to return it to service following rebuilding in the company of other coaches by the same designer.
PLATFORM PROGRESS: Construction of a platform for the 2ft gauge line at Mountsorrel & Rothley Community Heritage Centre is taking shape, as shown in this picture taken on October 22. As previously reported, the introduction of passenger rides on the line is anticipated in 2023.
