GWR ‘Hall’ No. 4936 Kinlet Hall, which is under overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works (TLW), could be in action next year. “A 10-month plan has been agreed to get it back in traffic at TLW,” owner Jonathan Jones Pratt told The RM.
With its bogie reattached, rewheeling is planned shortly. Work on the boiler, which is nearly complete has included attention to the firebox sides and back door plate, plus the fitting of new stays. Once the loco has been rewheeled, the boiler will be dropped in. No. 4936 is due to return to the main line as part of the Vintage Trains fleet. It is also hoped to run it on the West Somerset Railway (WSR) in due course.
Meanwhile, Mr Jones-Pratt’s WR 0-6-0PT No. 9466 is now available for use on the WSR if required as a spare engine. It has a 14-month boiler ticket and is expected to enter traffic for the main 2023 season. Work carried out at Williton has included attention to the crown stays. It is planned to keep it on WSR, but it may visit selected railways for galas.
