THE Somerset & Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton will be running its popular Wickham trolley rides again this year. These occur on Wednesdays, and a few other days, from April through to early September.
The ride covers the full length of the operating line providing excellent all-round visibility of the railway and its infrastructure installed during the last 20 years or so. This currently terminates at the infilled cutting on the approach to Chilcompton Tunnel.
Rides take place from 10.00 with the return trip being about 20 minutes. Each journey starts and finishes in Midsomer Norton station yard. Tickets are £5.50 for adults and £3 for children aged 4-16; aged 3 or under travel free.
The fully restored Type 27A Mk.III vehicle is ex-BR No. B40W (Wickham 7504 of 1956). Capacity is restricted to six in total per trip. Dates are: April 5, 12; May 31; July 26; August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and September 6. Visit www.sdjr.co.uk for details.
