THE owner of Class 04 No. D2203 (11103) based on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, has put the 0-6-0DM up for sale.
This is of historic significance as it is the last surviving loco to have worked on the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway built by the Great Eastern Railway in East Anglia and closed in May 1966.
Built at Vulcan Foundry, it was one of the first four of a class of 140 Drewry locos. Nos. 11100-11103 (D2200-D2203 were for use on the tramway and in Ipswich Docks. For these locations they were fitted with ‘cow catchers’and side skirts over the wheels.
Following withdrawal by BR in December 1967 No. D2203 was used by Hemel Hempstead Lightweight Concrete, Cupid Green, Hertfordshire until acquired for preservation at Embsay in February 1982.
