AFTER overcoming various issues, including faulty castings, the two cylinders for 1863 Mountaineer Locomotive Ltd’s replica Ffestiniog Railway George England 0-4-0T+T Mountaineer have now been fully machined, permanently bolted together and final machining of the common valve chest chamber faces completed. The cylinders, now formed as a monobloc, also serve as the front frame stretcher.
The cylinder bores are now being honed to final alignment and finish by a sub-contractor before returning to North Bay Railway Engineering Services for construction of the loco to continue.
The wheelsets are currently being finished with the connecting rods to be machined when the axle sets are in the frames. The goal is now to have a completed rolling chassis around May. Meanwhile, the tender is being researched and costed.
The monobloc cylinder assembly for replica Ffestiniog Railway George England 0-4-0T+T Mountaineer ready to be fitted to the frames of the locomotive.
