THE Philippines government has awarded Japanese firm Mitsubishi a $1.9 billion contract to build extensions on both ends of the new 38km Manila North-South Commuter Railway which is currently under construction and due to open in 2025.
The two new extensions will add 51km to the north of the first phase terminus at Malolos to serve Clark International Airport, and 55km to the south of the first phase from Tutuban to Calamba. Due to open in 2029, both will be built by a consortium including French companies Colas and Alstom.
