ASSOCIATED British Ports has agreed a deal which it hopes will help realise the “significant potential”of the rail-linked Marchwood Port on Southampton Water.
The acquisition of the port’s operator Solent Gateway Ltd is aimed at delivering plans for development and job creation, as well as improving the site’s facilities for serving the Ministry of Defence.
Part of the Solent Freeport, it can accommodate a range of vessels and has 158 acres of land for logistics use.
ABP chief executive Henrik Pedersen said: “It provides extra facilities and space in close proximity to the Port of Southampton, which will enable us to offer more solutions to customers and strengthen the region’s place as an important export gateway.”
