AFTER hauling Polar Express trains at Telford Steam Railway, Andrew Barclay 0-6-0ST Swordfish (2138/1941) has moved to Colne Valley Railway for the season.
It will replace the railway’s existing fleet, which is being repaired. The loco was given a steam test in February prior to a washout and a few minor repairs.
This locomotive, along with others in the same batch, was named after a Royal Navy S class submarine lost in the Second World War.
Colne Valley Railway has a pair of ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0STs on site. No. WD190 was built by Hunslet Engine Company in 1953 as works number 3790 and has been regularly used at Castle Hedingham, but now needs its 10 year overhaul.
